Lubuk Kawah

7 - 9 November 2008

Pre Trip Thingy

It was originally all set to re-visit Janda Baik as requested by our friends from Carabao 4X4 of Termerloh.  All plans were made to make that trip.  However, few days before this trip, Romeo indicated that one of our member was reluctant and wanted to go to Lubuk Kawah in Tanjong Malim.  After much persuasion from my side, MatYani agreed...

This time around Gugujah ordered an event t-shirt.. a first for us !!~ And luckily we managed to change the details from "XPDC Janda Baik" to the one we did make "XPDC Lubuk Kawah"... Thanks Sazli of Carabao for his effort on the tees.... for record the tees were confirmed on Friday 30th Oct and the change were made on Wednesday 5th Nov... what luck!!!

Day 1, Friday 7 November 2008

Yes.. what luck!  I urged everyone to push off early, but as it turned out, my own rig had a bit of a problem.  It was only after 9.00pm that we, Rizal of Jln Kebun and me, were able to leave Shah Alam.  What a bummer!

When we arrived Tanjong Malim, it was already around 11:00pm.  The first group - from Temerloh + Bentong - had already made their way into the trail.  Aziz & Ridzuan waited for us  at Petronas in Tg Malim.  In no time the three rigs met up with the main group - 8 rigs - at the first river crossing / campsite.  Despite the original plan of camping there, majority of 'em decided to push on.  So, crossed the river we did.... the time?  almost midnite.

It was to be a gruelling experience for everyone.  All was well, until we reached the mudhole...  yes THE mudhole..... There were broken winch cable.... broken steering alignment-rod....

After that river crossing was actually the real challenging trail starts.  It was already past midnite when we negotiated the first mudhole.  With a number of rigs in standard trim (from Carabao), it was, for lack of a better word, a nightmare for the co-pilots!  Winching was the order of the day.. ooopss night.. oopss... early morning...  Lots of winching.  Mostly by Romeo as more than half participant's rigs didn't have winch fitted!  Lesson learned.... not that they have not learn this before...

A number of rigs also became mechanically sick... hahahahaha....  that's nothing new... and nothing we can't troubleshoot....

Anyway... back to the trip's log.... the convoy... err... three rigs actually arrived our intended destination at dawn!!! I hitched a ride with Lie Belia, Mie and his son plus Faidz + Zaki made it as the day start to break... the rest?  Still winching and struggling en route...

Day 2, Saturday 8 November 2008

0600hrs or so... the othe five were already snoozing... I couldn't catch a wink.. as I was in pain.. backache.. but that's a totally different story.  Enuff to say that I was rendered helpless throughout the entire outing!  may became the co-pilot of my rig (and he successfully gave it a big dent over the right hand rear tyre... :(

Still on the trail approaching the campsite, the crew were trimming away the roadway especially for the few standard trim rigs. See the Petronas green Feroza... purely standard.. hehehe.. but high spirits... amde it all the way to the campsite!  Bavado to the pilot.. and to the white LO47 pilot as well - similar standard rig

Some of the crew whom worked really hard the night did manage to catch some rest.......

It was almost noon when all rigs except for Rizal's Rocky made it to the campsite.  By that time, the big tent was already up, and food was already prepared...  So it was makan time... I lost track of the time of day... so, makan time is appropriate!!! hahahaha...

After makan, what's best?  for this really hardworking man...

Later that night, Ustaz led solat maghrib and a tahlil honouring Romeo whom will be leaving for Makkah at the end of November.... This is a fisrt for the group... and insyaAllah won't be the last!  Such majlis I think can really lift our commitment and spirits...

Well, the second nite ended with everyone turning-in early.  Might as well, since it rained heavily, asnd evryone was tired from the previous nite all night long excursion.... I for one was half awake all the time.... it was too cold for my muscle cramps.. Jazakallah to Romeo, Azli, Mat Yani, May, and few other whom took turn to "urut & demoh" me... I slept soundly after that...

Day 3, Sunday 9 November 2008

Next morning, almost everyone woke up very early before sunrise for solat subuh...  Breakfast were half boiled eggs with sausage + bread and few other dishes...  Then everyone went on with their things...

at around 10;00am, after an early lunch .. or morning tea (can't be as it was a full dish nasi with lauk etc), we were all packed and ready to make our return trip...  lots of posing this time around  :)

And lots of winching and hard work as well... the heavy downpour last nite made the trail very muddy & slippery....

But that's where the "fun" lies... hehehehe ....

There you have it... more or less the story on our first time Lubuk Kawah outing... Lots more pictures can be found HERE ...

Enjoy!!!!
