Sakar Tiga

with Carabaoo 4X4 Club (Temerloh)

20 - 22 June 2008

Day 1, Friday 20 June 2008

A working Friday!!! ah well.....   Whiskey-Mike was franctic the whole week as his rig was less-than-ready for the trip.  However, a last minute twitch (plus more than one grand of RM!) brought temporary joy for him.  And despite constant reminder from Romeo to arrive Bentong at 0830hrs, we (Bravo-Lima, Whiskey Mike & Sierra-Echo) came to the rv place more than an hour later!  And worse still, Zulu-Yankee arrived later than us... :)

I guess this is some sort of a reunion for the founding members of Gugujah... This is the only time since our first trip way back in 2005 that all five of us got together again.  Fizi a.k.a November-Hotel also joined us today hitching a ride in Zulu's car... note: he sold his LC quite some times now...

@ around 1100hrs, we arrived Temerloh.... yet Whiskey's rig was still having some mechanical issues.  It was decided to take the rig to a mechanic in Temerloh.... after some minor repairs (serviced the front tyres bearings & relocate the steering shock-damper), the car was good to go.  While waiting for friday prayers, the group met up with Alpha-Kilo and rested in his house for a while.

After prayers, we proceeded to Mat Yani's shop - the rv point with his group (now known as Carabaoo 4X4 Club).... After a sumptuous nasi ayam lunch, registration at Mat Yani's.... the convoy began our journey heading towards Jengka - stopping to meet more participants at the junction to Mat Daling (this was our originally planned destination; was was changed at the last minute by the organiser....)  In total, there were 17 rigs that came along for this adventure.

As if it was some kind of a curse, my elsie also developed some mechanical problem just as we exited into the Lepar road from Jengka.... the left front absorber-spring came off from its base ~ and that was quicky rectified by the accompanying mechanic from Carabaoo, Lee.

As we hit off-road, it was already sundown... and with about 52km of night driving ahead, I guess everyone was very excited!

Not much obstacles along the way... apart from the many steep hill climbs and descends, a mudhole did give hard times for a few vehicles (in standard trim)... else, everything was smooth sailing... err.. err....  except for that one incident whereby my elsie's power suddenly ceased - rendering it completely stalled!  Well, I was trailing last when suddenly the car's engine & electrical system stopped - and smoke came out from under the hood... as we later found a shorted wire as the cause... in no time rescue came (although me & may were left groping in the dark for more than 15 minutes!) and again Lee saved the day (night)... hurraaaahhh...

Ohh.. almost forgot... Aziz browsed Gugujah website and wrote an email to the webmaster (me) after he decided to take up the 4X4 'hobby'... and when I suggested he join Sierra-Echo as co-pilot, he quickly contacted Sierra-Echo and joined us for the first time!  Welcome to da group Aziz (pics above..) !!!

Anyway... back to the trip's log.... the convoy arrived camp site known as 'Sakar Tiga' at midnite... thats more than five hours off road drive (plus a few pit stops of less than ten mins) !!!  And with setting up of tents etc... most only hit the sack @ 3:00am...

Day 2, Saturday 21 June 2008

0630hrs... just after about three hours of sleep, almost everyone (including me) was up.  Breakfast were quickly prepared by Mat Yani - nasi goreng + meehoon goreng + biskut + teh tarik... superlicious!

After breakfast.. whats next? The Carabaoon's xtvt are mainly fishing....  While some chose to stay back at  camp, some trail the river following the 'fishermen' of Carabaoo...

... not bad for a half days river-trekking... there enuff catch for lunch and dinner... :)

That took care of our morning.  By 1400hrs, almost everyone was back at hte camp - lunch was ready - prepared by Ustadz.  After lunch.... with the hot sun above our heads, we refuged under the big tent... chit chatting or playing cards...

.. or small tent also can... still can doze off catching up on sleep deprived from last nite.. :)

A better idea is to sit around with feet in the water!

,

..... while waiting for night to fall... eat... lazing around... then sleep.... what a life!

Day 3, Sunday 22 June 2008

I slept like a hybernating bear last nite!  Well, I came down with runny nose as evening falls... a medical assistance from amongst Carabaoo gang 'prescribed' flu tablet - just one pill was enuff to knock me out from 8:00pm till morning!

It was a refreshing morning indeed... the camp's master blew his car's horn at 0630hrs to ensure that everyone woke up for solat subuh... good show chap!  After the ritual breakfast... everyone was back to their place and started to pack up - some still went out to fish (Ustadz actually went out with his group to collect their fishing net which they had place the day before).

After early lunch, just before noon, the group left camp heading towards civilization. But not without posing for some pictures first!

well... off we went... more or less satisfied with the two nites in the deep forest....

At this pitstop... we were intrigued with wildlife footprints... no one could tell exactly what animal left the prints though... but some good guesses were thrown by the more experience adventurer..

All those from Gugujah please say "cheeseeeeee".......

An orang asli temporary camp.... they are nomads pillaging for food and items that they can sell to the outside world.... a very simple life... no worries about oil price escalation, no worries about price increase of all our basic needs....

It rained as we travelled half way out of the jungle... the silty road were very slippery...

Four Gugujah's rig were the last to reach tarmac road... back to civilization...

After quite a long hiatus... Zulu "merenung jauh"... now.. what could he be thinking about? .......  "bila lar aku nyer LC nih nak transformer jadik macam keta Whiskey Mike.."... hehehehehehehe.....

As per previous trips, the last stopover for the whole group is at this coffeshop across the petrol sation in Jengka...

Mie... pro-tem Presindent of Carabaoo 4X4 gave a thank-you speech... followed by self-appointed Gugujah Chief - Whiskey Mike returning the favor...

Everyone seemed to pay attention... :)

We parted ways after Romeo picked the tab.... Gugujah headed towards the LPT Hiway while Carabaoo headed back into Temerloh via the federal roadway...  Thanks guys!!!
